The Maryville College baseball team dropped a non-conference challenge to Berry College on Tuesday evening by the score of 12-7 on MC's Scotland Yard.
Scots' first baseman Joey Tomlinson went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI, but MC could not recover after an 8-1 deficit following the first four innings. Tomlinson's first home run of the season, an opposite-field shot, was Maryville's only run until the sixth inning.
RBI singles by Tomlinson and Drew Johnson brought the score to 9-3 at the end of the sixth inning.
The Scots rallied for four runs in the seventh when Christian Poulsen and Ryan Jones singled in runs before Drew Johnson lifted a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Peyton Sawyer. Poulsen scored MC's final run on a wild pitch making the score 9-7.
Berry posted an unearned run in the eighth before catcher Weston Bray singled in a run in the ninth. The Vikings tallied their final run on a Dylan Beasley RBI fielder's choice in their last plate appearance.
Garrett West (2-1) earned the win on the mound for Berry going 5.1 innings allowing three hits and a trio of earned runs. Spence Johns earned the three-inning save allowing only three hits over the final three innings.
Maryville allowed 11 hits while surrendering nine walks to Viking hitters on the day.
