Diamond Scots eliminated from USA South Tournament after a 5-0 loss to Greensboro

The Maryville College baseball team finished their 2019 spring with a 22-17 mark after falling to Greensboro College 5-0 in an elimination game at the USA South Baseball Tournament in LaGrange, Georgia on Friday afternoon.

 

Greensboro's Will Hicks held the Scots to only five hits over nine innings to earn the complete-game victory on the mound.

 

The Pride (19-17) tallied four runs in the first inning when Chance Bryant and Blake Carroll posted RBI singles before Derek Jaar connected for a single to left field scoring both Bryant and Carroll.

 

Greensboro tallied an insurance run in the fifth inning when Lincoln Hewitt scored on a passed ball.

 

Maryville senior catcher Eric Hart paced the Scots' offense going 2-for-3 while Wesley Peerson, Hayden Hollingsworth, and Kolton Hick added MC's only additional hits on the day.

 

Christian Poulsen (4-2) suffered the loss on the mound, but Zach Messinger threw seven strong innings allowing only six hits and one earned runs while striking out five.

 

Greensboro advances to challenge Covenant College in an elimination game at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
