Franchez's stand earns him USA South Defensive Player of the Week honors

The USA South Athletic Conference released their performers of the week with action ending on September 10th. Maryville College's Franchez Marshall was named the league's football defensive player of the week for his outstanding effort.

The Greenville, Georgia junior defensive lineman compiled six tackles, including 2.5 for a loss of 11 total yards, in 24-20 victory over Hanover last week. Marshall made four solo tackles to go with two assisted take downs including 1.5 sacks. On a defensive stand late in the game, Marshall was in on two sacks which helped seal the Scot victory.

"Franchez played with a great deal of effort against Hanover," exclaimed Head Football Coach Shaun Hayes. "When you turn on the film he ran down plays from the backside and played very efficient. He is a very talented individual but this week the mindset he played with throughout the game set the standard for of defense to follow going forward."

His efforts have helped Maryville to a 1-1 start on the season. In a pair of games, Franchez has four solo stops and a trio of assisted tackles. In 21 career games in the orange and garnet, Marshall has 75 total tackles, seven sacks, a forced fumble, and a pair of pass breakups.

Maryville is now preparing for a key non-conference road trip to Emory, Virginia to challenge the Wasps of Emory & Henry College on Saturday.
