Following a record setting first round, the Maryville College men's golf program finished sixth as a team at the 2017 Tom Kinder Memorial on Monday evening. Weather in the Harrisonburg, Virginia area forced the participants to play 36 holes in a single day.
Guilford College claimed the overall team title with a two-round total of 276-284 (560). Of the 14 collegiate programs, Maryville finished sixth with a collective 293-302 (595).
Ferrum College's Lance Kelser posted an amazing 64 in his final round. His 68-64 (132) blistered the course for a 12-under par individual title effort.
Maryville's Tyler Bray finished the 6,769 yard, par-72 Lakeview Golf Club with a 72-71 (143) effort. The freshman finished eighth overall with the one-under par score in his inaugural collegiate event. Senior Doug Whitten followed his record setting 69 first round with a 77. His collective 146 earned the Alberta, Canada native a 12th place finish. Garrett Compliment tallied a 76-74 (150) for a 25th place finish. As an independent Wil Manuel finished 38th with an 80-75 (155). Additional scorers for the MC team effort were Hunter DeSena 76-80 (156) and D.J. Shelton 80-80 (160).
The Scots will now prepare for the Rhodes College Fall Classic in Tunica, Mississippi on September 17-18.
