Scots finish first round of Maryville College Invitational in first place

The Maryville College men's golf team participated in the 2017 Maryville College Invitational at Egwani Farms Golf Course in Rockford, Tennessee on Monday afternoon.

The Scots are in first place with a 291 after the first round. Garret Compliment paced MC with a 71 while Doug Whitten and D.J. Shelton each tallied a 73. Tyler Bray posted a 74 with Wil Manuel adding a 79 to the Maryville composite. The core of Compliment, Whitten, Shelton, and Bray paced the individual standings with Berea's Kevin Kim in 5th place following their first look at the par-70, 6,430-yard course.

"We didn't play as well as we thought we would," stated Maryville College Head Golf Coach Ron Waters. "With the cold temperatures and wind, 291 is not a bad score. The guys are excited about coming back tomorrow and recapturing the few shots that got away today."

Maryville also had four additional teammates playing as independents. Hunter DeSena finished with a 78 while Peyton Wheat, Brady Orr, and Tyler Roller compiled an 81, 86, and 87 respectively.

Cleveland State is in second place 29-strokes behind the Scots. Hendrix College (Ark.) finished the initial round in third place with a 323.
