The USA South Athletic Conference released their performers of the week with action ending on September 10th. Maryville College freshman Milan Card was named the league's men's soccer rookie of the week for his outstanding effort.
The freshman midfielder from Chattanooga, Tennessee tallied one goal and one assist as the Scots posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 2-1 win over Pfeiffer, Card was held scoreless. In a 3-1 victory over USA South foe Huntingdon, Card first assisted on the game-tying goal in the 61st minute before scoring the eventual game-winning tally in the 63rd minute. Card's header into the bottom right of the net was his first collegiate goal.
"Even though he is a rookie on the pitch, Milan has been very consistent," stated Maryville College Head Soccer Coach Pepe Fernandez. "He has been involved in many scoring opportunities in pre-season and scrimmages. He reminds us of a young Tim Baker who earned numerous accolades for the Scots the past four seasons. We are excited about his play, his composure, and his ability to finish. It was key for the team after being down to a conference foe late that he stepped up with a key assist and goal."
His efforts have helped Maryville to a 4-0 start on the season. His assist and goal pushed MC to 1-0 in league play. In four games, Card has taken five shots on goal as an attacking midfielder.
Maryville is now preparing for a key USA South road trip to Ferrum College and Averett University this weekend.
