Bats come alive in 10-1 win over Covenant

Behind a 12-hit offensive attack and a complete game by pitcher Nicole Blackburn, the Maryville College softball team run-ruled USA South foe Covenant College by the score of 10-1 in six innings in the first game of a double header in Lookout Mountain, Georgia on Wednesday afternoon.

Blackburn advanced to 5-2 on the season after scattering nine hits over six innings and allowing only a lone run in the final inning. The reigning USA South and TSWA pitcher of the week struck out six while walking only one.

A bases loaded hit batter and a two-RBI single up the middle by Alexus Murray gave MC a 3-0 advantage in their first at-bat.

Morgan Brewer scored on a wild pitch in the third inning and Ashton Hayden placed an opposite field single for an RBI to make the score 5-0 after five complete innings.

Maryville's bats exploded in the sixth when Rachel Taylor blasted her third homerun of the season scoring Jenna Roberts. Brewer laced a double to plate Aly Snider and Christen Torres sent Brewer home on an RBI single to left field. MC finished their scoring when Christina White pinch hit and drove in Murray with a single through the left side.

The Scots 12-hit attack was paced by Ashton Hayden (3-for-5), Morgan Brewer (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI), and Alexus Murray (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI).

The win advances MC to 16-5 and 7-2 in USA South action while Covenant falls to 12-7, 6-3 in league play.
