Casey Joliff, a sophomore right-hander hurler, tossed a complete game four-hitter to help Maryville College sweep USA South division rival Covenant College by the score of 3-1 in the second game of a league double header in Lookout Mountain, Georgia late Wednesday.
With only one strikeout and a late walk, Joliff kept hitters off balance and relied on the Scots defense throughout the contest. The win pushes her record to 3-1 on the season and the St. Johns, Florida native is sporting a 1.39 ERA in over 35 innings of work.
Maryville lit up the scoreboard with all their runs in the third inning. Ashton Hayden drove in Jessica McMahan with an infield single. Hayden and Jenna Roberts later scored on a Rachel Taylor two-RBI single up the middle.
Covenant was held hitless through five complete innings and added their lone run in the ninth on an RBI fielder's choice by Shannon Schmitt.
Maryville advances to 17-5 overall and 8-2 in USA South action. Covenant falls to 12-8, 6-4 in conference play.
The Scots will now prepare to host Methodist University on Saturday and Meredith College on Sunday. Saturday will be senior day. Coach Leah Kelley and her staff will honor seniors Jessica McMahan and Jenna Roberts for their outstanding careers.
