Maryville College could only find four hits in game two against No. 18 Emory University, as the Eagles took game two, 9-1, in five innings.
The Scots held the game scoreless through the first two innings, before a pair of four-run innings in the fourth and fifth allowed the Eagles to earn the victory.
Emory University struck first in the bottom of the third. After Lana Herrmann drew a walk, she was sacrificed to second by Cassie Baca's bunt. Taylor Forte laced an RBI single into left-center to score her from second, as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead.
A bases-loaded, two-RBI single to center by Baca plated a pair of runs for the Eagles in the bottom of the fourth. Michael and Sarah Flanders scored on the play. Forte found her third RBI of the ball game with a single to center, as both Baca and Sam Vincent scored from second and third. Emory led 5-0.
Maryville put together a rally in the top of the fifth. Ashton Hayden singled to left for the RBI to score Morgan Brewer, before Jenna Roberts drew a walk to load the bases with two outs. Rachel Taylor sent a long fly ball to the warning track in center field, but the Eagles ended the threat with a 5-1 lead.
A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bags for Emory in the bottom of the fifth. Ashley Powers used a two-RBI single up the middle to score Jenna Wilson and Amy Wray. Baca would add a two-RBI double to left-center to score Powers, as Janelle Turnquest slid under the tag at home for a 9-1 final in eight innings.
Maryville could muster only four hits in the contest, as Emory pitcher Brittany File had eight strikeouts in the game.
Brewer, Hayden, Taylor and Casey Joliff each had hits, while Brewer scored a run. Hayden added an RBI for MC.
For Emory, Baca was 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored, while Forte went 2-for-3 with a trio of RBI. Wray was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Maryville will look next to face Averett University on Saturday, March 25, in a USA South double header. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
