Maryville College fell to Rhodes College in the second game of the day during the Rhodes College Tournament, as the Lynx used a first-inning two-run homer to take the win, 2-0.
The game – Rhodes eighth of the young season – marks MC's second of the 2019 campaign, evening the Scots' record at 1-1.
In the bottom of the first, Rhodes' Leslie Matherne was hit by pitch to put a runner on. Just a batter later, Kendall Henry lofted the ball for a two-run shot – the game's only runs.
Maryville managed just a pair of baserunners in their second game of the day, as Alexus Murray drew a walk in the top of the second.
Taylor Campbell broke up Lauren King's no-hitter attempt in the fourth with a single to left, as the hit ranked as the only one given up by King on the day.
King moved to 4-0 on the year, as she pitched a complete game. She gave up just one walk while striking out one.
Maryville will return to action tomorrow, Feb. 17, as they take on day two of the Rhodes College Tournament. The Scots will face off with Webster University tomorrow morning, before taking on Rhodes again tomorrow afternoon.
