Joliff records six RBI; Scots tally 17 hits to defeat Huntingdon, 16-5

Maryville College moved to a perfect 10-0 in USA South play on Sunday afternoon, as the Scots defeated Huntingdon College, 16-5, in six innings.

The Scots tallied a 17-hit attack, as Casey Joliff led MC with six RBI. Taylor Campbell had four RBI with a homerun, as Morgan Brewer tallied a pair of RBI. A total of six Scots had two or more hits in the game, as Sarah Gordon had four.

Katlyn Smith tallied her fourth win of the week, pitching 4.1 innings of relief. She gave up just two hits, as she struck out a trio of Hawks.

Maryville got started early, as the Scots plated four runs in the first inning. Alexus Murray and Essence Strambler led off the game with back-to-back singles, before Campbell scored both with a two-RBI double to right. Sarah Gordon plated pinch runner Ashleigh Geary with an RBI double to left of her own, before Joliff drew a bases-loaded walk. Her RBI scored pinch runner Gabrielle Rathmell for a 4-0 Maryville lead.

In the second inning, the Scots scored again. Strambler singled to third to open the inning, before Campbell came through with her home run. The sophomore's two-run shot to left made the score 6-0. Joliff added her second RBI of the game with a bases-loaded groundout, as Reid Ballard scored for a seven-run lead.

Huntingdon cut that lead to just two in the bottom of the second. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, before Lydia Lewis plated Claire Tomberlin with an RBI single through the right side. Alyssa Singleterry added a two-RBI single to score Caitlyn Caffee and Annie Nolan, before McKenzie Ridgway's single to the pitcher scored Lewis and Singleterry. After two complete inning, the score was 7-5.

Brewer added an RBI in the fourth, scoring pinch runner Amaya Goodloe from third following a Reid Ballard walk. Joliff singled up the middle for her third RBI to score Brewer for a 9-5 advantage.

The Scots would secure the six-inning victory with seven runs in the top of the sixth. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases, as Brewer drew a bases-loaded walk to plated Ballard. Joliff would empty the bases with a three-RBI single to right-center. Ashton Hayden singled to third, as the throw got away. Joliff scored on the play, as Alexus Murray's RBI single scored Hayden from third. Murray would score on an error for the 16-5 victory.

Maryville (18-8, 10-0) was led by Joliff who was 2-for-3 with six RBI, a run and a walk. Campbell was 2-for-5 with four RBI and a run, while Brewer went 2-for-3 with a pair of run and two RBI. Murray was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while Strambler was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs. Sarah Gordon was 4-for-5 with a run and an RBI, as Hayden went 1-for-3 with a run. Ballard scored two runs for the Scots, as Ashleigh Geary, Gabrielle Rathmell and Christen Torres each scored a run.

Huntingdon (19-11, 4-2) saw Singleterry go 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run. Lewis was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the Hawks' eight-hit attack.

The series against Rhodes College on Tuesday was cancelled, as Maryville will now have a week off. The Scots face Berea College at home on Sunday, April 7. The USA South doubleheader is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
