Offensive surge leads Maryville past William Peace 12-1

It took over twelve minutes for the Scots to find the back of the net, but once Maryville did, the game was put out of reach quickly. Maryville would finish with a 12-1 victory over William Peace on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Maryville College.

The scoring would get underway as Ashley Howarth found the back of the net in the 13th minute of play. Sierra Siegel and Samantha Turner would add goals in the 24th and 30th minutes before William Peace would score their only tally of the day in the 42nd minute. The Scots would quickly answer with a goal in the 44th minute by Lauren Ward to close out the first half with a 4-1 advantage.

Maryville would put the game out of reach early in the second half with three goals in a span of one minute and three seconds. The goals were scored by Taylor Emerson, Allyson Hale and Lydia Fuson.  In the closing 35 minutes of play goals would be added by Samantha Turner, Taylor Emerson, Alexis Franco, Ashley Howarth and Phoebe Leo.

"We played well offensively today," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "It was nice to see us click on the offensive side of the ball and put some goals on the scoreboard today. I would have liked to keep them off the board but we gave up a bad goal and we'll move on from it today."

The win brings the Scots to 6-1-0 on the year and 5-0 in USA South competition.  After a busy weekend, the Scots will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Covenant College at 5:00 pm.
