Tennis lands four on USA South All-Conference

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2019 All-Conference awards for men's and women's tennis, as four Scots earned yearly accolades.

Maryville College's Savannah Bain and Kayla Zimmerman were tabbed to the Second Team Western Division squad.

"We are so proud of what Savannah, Kayla and all of our players have accomplished this season," Co-Head Coach Millicent Dunn said. "They have worked hard everyday at practice and really believed in themselves. These girls are such a pleasure to coach and work with on a daily basis. They are what doing this job is all about. Both of these awards are extremely well deserved. Go Scots!"

Additionally, MC's Savannah Mantooth and Cole Stinson were named to the USA South's All-Sportsmanship squad.

Bain and Zimmerman combined for 20 singles wins on the season, as Bain - a senior - went 10-4. Zimmerman was 10-5 on the year in singles action. Bain coupled with Kayla Basilio most of the season to go 9-5 in doubles action, while Zimmerman and Anastasia Dunn went 9-6 in doubles matches during the regular season.

The duo led the Scots to an 8-8 record, as MC earned a third-seed bid to the USA South Tournament. Maryville went 5-3 in conference play this year.

On the women's side, Averett University's Heidi Sarkkinen earned Player of the Year, N.C. Wesleyan College's Fariza Abdulloeva was named Rookie of the Year while her coach, Albie Brice, collected Coach of the Year accolades.

In men's competition, Roberto Puig was named Player of the Year, Juan Vallejo earned Rookie of the Year and their coach, Albie Brice was named Coach of the Year to round out the individual honors.

All awards are voted on by the men's or women's tennis coach at each institution. The divisional team voting is completed only by those coaches in the particular division. The all-conference and individual award voting is completed by all coaches.
