The Maryville College volleyball team opened up their 2017 home schedule by hosting the MC Invitational on Friday evening. A late surge was not enough as the Pride of Greensboro College defeated the Scots 3-1 by the scores of 25-13, 25-19, 18-25, 27-25 in MC's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
The Pride was paced by Evan Sherer's 21 kills and almost 35% attack percentage. Katie Clark directed the offense with 30 assists. Her favorite targets were Sherer and Emily Horn who added a dozen kills. Tori Belcher and Breanna Wilton led the Pride's defense with 26 and 18 digs respectively.
The victory advances Greensboro to 5-1 on the season.
Maryville trailed 2-0 but fought back with a strong 25-18 victory in the third set. The Pride claimed the final set with a thrilling 27-25 fourth set.
Maryville's Kelley Wandell deposited 10 kills while Saidee McDaniel dished out 33 assists while also recording eight kills and 11 digs. Allison Botts contributed nine kills and seven digs. Brianne Sidner finished with eight kills.
The setback brings MC's record to 2-6 on the season.
