The Maryville College volleyball team advanced to 12-10 on the season and 6-2 in USA South action following a 3-1 victory over Agnes Scott College by the scores of 25-20, 25-20, 22-25, and 25-21.
Senior Nia Haller paced MC at the net with 15 kills connecting on over 54% of her attacks. Sophomore Brianne Sidner threw down 13 kills in 32 attacks while Lauren Espinal and Dejane Hester-Taylor deposited 11 and 10 kills respectively.
As Agnes Scott tallied 157 attacks, Maryville's defense answered the call. Nia Haller completed her double-double effort with 20 digs. Fellow senior Kaitlyn Flickinger also recorded 20 returns. Saidee McDaniel also posted a double-double adding a dozen digs to her line score. Freshman Lauren Espinal proved strong at the net defensively with a match-leading three solo blocks.
Agnes Scott (7-15, 1-6 USA South) was led at the net by Resa Knott (11 kills) and Paige Heck (9 kills). Anna Tomkins posted a match-high 31 assists in the loss.
Going into a stretch of four upcoming home matches, the Scots are paced at the net statistically by Sidner, Haller, and Rhianna Tyldesley. The trio is averaging over a pair of kills per set played. McDaniel and Youell direct the offense collectively averaging over ten assists per set. Kaitlyn Flickinger paces the defense with 337 digs this season averaging over four per set.
The Scots will play next on Friday, October 20th against Berea College in a home match at 4:00 p.m. During Homecoming's Saturday festivities (October 21st) LaGrange and Brevard will have a tri-match with MC on Randy Lambert Court beginning at noon. The home finale will be Wednesday, October 25th as the Scots host Oglethorpe at 6:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
