Maryville fell to the LaGrange College on Saturday morning in USA South action, 3-1, inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium.
Maryville fell behind 8-3 in the opening set, before the Scots would rally to 13-13 tie. Hester-Taylor, Lauren Espinal, Nia Haller and Sidner would add kills in the rally, before a Panther error would give them their first lead.
The squads would trade points to a 15-all score, as a Samantha James' kills and an MC error would put LaGrange back in the lead. A pair of kills by Tyldesley and Hester-Taylor would knot things at 18, with a Saidee McDaniel service ace would give Maryville a 19-18 lead.
The Panthers used a 6-1 run for match point, 24-21, as the Scots fought off one with an Espinal throw down. A service error would give LaGrange the opening set, however, 25-21.
In set two, the Scots jumped out to an early 6-3 advantage with throw downs from Tyldesley, Espinal and Sidner. A kill from Hester-Taylor coupled with a service ace from McDaniel – her second of the match – Maryville would extend that lead to 12-6.
MC would use that momentum to keep up a 8-1 run for a 15-7 lead. LaGrange would score nine of the next 15 points, before the Scots used a Hester-Taylor kill and block with kills from Haller and Tyldesley for the 25-18 victory in the second set.
In the day's third set, Maryville and LaGrange would fight to an 8-8 tie as Sidner had a pair of kills. A Tyldesley kill would knot it at 12, before the Panthers would use a 6-2 run for an 18-14 advantage.
The Scots would claw to stay in the set with kills from Madison Wilkerson, Haller and Espinal, before a Jazzlyn Kenner kill and an MC error would give LaGrange the third set, 25-22.
In the fourth set, Maryville take a lead, 14-12. However, a 7-0 run by the Panthers on kills by Emily Arnold and Kenner would give LaGrange a 21-14 advantage.
The Scots would rattle off eight of the next 10 to cut the score to 23-22, before a pair of Samantha James' kills would end the match, 25-23.
Maryville (13-11, 7-3 USA South) was led by Tyldesley's 12-kill outing. The freshman hit .154 for the match with a trio digs. Sidner had nine kills, five digs, an ace and a block, while Hester-Taylor added nine kills, three digs and a pair of blocks. She hit .529 to lead the Scots.
Espinal and Haller had six kills each, as they both added an assist. Haller had nine digs to Espinal's three, as Taylor Youell added 21 assists, three digs and an ace.
McDaniel had 19 assists, seven digs, two kills and two aces, as Kaitlyn Flickinger led the defense with 26 total digs.
For LaGrange (11-11, 3-6), it was Emily Arnold who tallied 24 kills behind a .429 hitting percentage. James added 12 kills, as Sanders had a double-double with 29 assists and 10 digs. Libby Compton had 18 assists, as Maggie Ivester (19), Emily Boswell (15) and Mimi Loftus (10) each finished with double-figure digs.
