Scots fall to Whittier in season opener 3-1 at Emory Invitational

The Maryville College volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a 3-1 loss at the hands of Whittier College from California in the Emory University Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday evening.

 

The Scots fell to the Poets by the scores of 16-25, 23-25, 25-23, and 13-25. Maryville was paced at the net by Brianne Sidner's 12 kills. Arin Wyttenback and Rhianna Tyldesley added eight and seven kills respectively to a collective unit that posted a .126 kill percentage. Meredith Bonee directed the offensive attack with 23 assists. Bonee tallied a double-double effort with an additional 10 digs on defense. MacKenzie Marcrum paced the defense with 23 digs with Tyldesley adding an additional 16 digs. Wyttenback and Sidner each paced the team at the net on defense with a trio of blocks apiece.

 

Whittier (1-0) was led by Makenzie Thieme's 12 kills while Ashley Whittall added 10 kills.

 

Maryville (0-1) will challenge The College of St. Benedict and SUNY New Palz in Atlanta on Saturday to conclude the Emory Invitational.
