The Maryville College volleyball squad rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat host Huntingdon College 3-2 in Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots took the first set 25-21 before dropping the next pair of sets 19-25 and 16-25. MC pulled out the fourth set 25-19 and took the clinching set 16-14 for the hard-fought USA South road win.
Meredith Bonee directed the offense with 34 assists while also returning 17 digs on defense. Brianne Sidner and Arin Wyttenbach were key at the net with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Sidner joined Bonee in double-double number with an additional 14 digs on defense. Dejane Hester-Taylor (9 kills), Linnea Liebert (7 kills), and Bonee (6 kills) were all key in the Scots' complete offensive attack. Yasmeen Cham paced the defense with 18 digs while Taylor Youell added 11 returns. Wyttenback was strong at the defensive net with three blocks and a block assist.
Amy Tyma paced Huntingdon (14-7, 5-1 USA South) with 19 kills while Alexis Creasman added an additional 11 kills.
The victory advances Maryville to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in league challenges. The Scots will play Piedmont to conclude their USA South tri-match at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Montgomery, Alabama.
