Sidner, Bonee record double-doubles as Scots fall to Covenant, 3-2

The Battle of the Scots took extra volleyball for the second time this season, as Maryville College couldn't hold off a late Covenant College rally, 3-2.

Covenant took the first 25-17, before Maryville took sets two and three, 25-16 and 25-17 on a pair of long rallies. However, the Georgian Scots took the victory with 25-23, 15-11 scores.

Meredith Bonee and Brianne Sidner each recorded double-doubles in the match for MC.

Maryville and Covenant battled to a 5-5 tie in the opening set behind a Linnea Liebert kill from Yasmeen Chan. However, the Georgian Scots would score 10 of the next 12, with Liebert and Dejane Hester-Taylor recording kills for Maryville in that stretch.

A pair of kills each for Brianne Sidner and Hester-Taylor was coupled with a Chan ace, but it wouldn't be enough. Covenant rode that early surge to take set one, 25-17.

Hester-Taylor, Sidner and Liebert would continue to lead Maryville at the net in the second half, as the two squad knotted things at 13-all. The Scots scored 12 of the next 15 points in the set to take the victory, 25-16.

Hester-Taylor had a pair of kills and a pair of aces in the rally, before an Arin Wyttenbach kill would end the set in Maryville's favor.

In the fourth set, Maryville took an 11-7 lead with another Sidner ace. Covenant scored the next four before extending that to seven of the next eight to take a 14-12 lead. A Hannah Harris kill and an MC error extended Covenant's lead to 19-14, before the Orange and Garnet could mount a rally.

Sidner and Wyttenbach posted kills, as an Allison Botts kills cut Covenant's lead to one, 21-20. Covenant's Allie Jakes found a kill to extend it to 22-20, before Wyttenbach's kill and a Georgian Scot error knotted things at 22. Maryville took the lead, 23-22, as Alexa Spurling tied it at 23-all.

Back-to-back kills by Sara Delk and Spurling gave Covenant the fourth set, 25-23.

Maryville rallied to an 8-4 lead in the deciding fifth set on a Liebert kill. Covenant rallied to score four straight points with Emily Moore's ace knotting things at 8-all.

Sidner found a kill from Hester-Taylor to regain the lead, but the Covenant squad seven of the next nine to take the match, 3-2.
