Bonee tabbed TSWA Player of the Week behind her pair of triple-doubles

Maryville College's Meredith Bonee picked up her second weekly award this week, as the freshman was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week.

Bonee, who was named the USA South Rookie of the Year earlier this week, was also named the USA South Rookie of the Week following last week's performances.

The Knoxville, Tenn. native had a huge week, as she tallied a pair of triple-doubles and a double-double in a 2-1 week for the Scots.

The freshman standout averaged a triple-double over the three matches with 19 assists, 13.33 kills and 12.33 digs per contest, as Bonee tallied her second and third triple-double in her first collegiate season.

She also had four blocks and four service aces on the week.

"Meredith had a stellar week," Head Coach Kandis Schram said. "We played some really tough competition, and she really accelerated her game and played phenomenally well."

Bonee led MC to a 16-9 record overall, as the Scots enter the USA South Tournament as a third-ranked squad.

On the season, she has 12 double-doubles and a trio of triple-double efforts in that tally.

"I think it's significant for any player, but for a freshman to do that with the maturity, it's really cool," Schram said. "As a setter, she has to think strategically, so we're asking her to play some offense and play some defense. In her position, it's really extra special."

In a 3-1 win of non-conference foe Oglethorpe University, Bonee recorded her second collegiate triple-double. The freshman averaged 3.75 kills and 3.75 assists per set over the four-set match, as she tallied 3.00 digs. She hit .400 for the match, while adding a block and a pair of service aces for 17.5 points.

On Friday, Bonee recorded a career-high 19 kills against Huntingdon College. MC rallied from a 2-0 deficit to upset the USA South top-ranked Hawks, 3-2. Bonee had 19 kills, 21 assists and 10 digs for her largest performance of the year. Her .233 hitting percentage led the squad in the match, as she added two aces and a block for 21.5 total points.

The Scots narrowly missed back-to-back rallies from 2-0 deficits. Piedmont College rallied in the firth set to take the 3-2 win.

Bonee had a double-double in the match with 21 assists and 15 digs. She also had two blocks.

On the season, the freshman from Knoxville, Tenn. has 171 kills at a .189 clip. She has a team-leading 415 assists, as she averages 4.66 per set on the year.

Bonee has 214 digs to go with 28 service aces and 22 blocks on the year.

She's averaged 17.29 assists, 8.92 digs and 7.13 kills per match in her 24 career games.

Maryville now looks toward the USA South Semifinals tonight, as the Scots travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the remainder of the tournament.

"We all know that we can do it, and we're working hard to put ourselves in the best frame of mind to bring it home," Schram said.

MC swept both Agnes Scott College and Huntingdon College on Tuesday night to advance to the third round of the conference tournament. They face off with Eastern Division top-seeded Meredith College tonight at 6:30 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available.
