MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maggie Mathews, a transfer outside hitter from Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Fla., has committed to continue her academic and volleyball careers at Maryville College.
Mathews, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, played for Kim Lippmann at Fernandina Beach High School in Fernandina Beach, Florida. She helped the squad to a 2018 Panhandle Conference Championship while being a Florida Times-Union All-Area honoree. For her excellent work in the classroom, Maggie was named to the Mid-Florida Conference and FCSAA All-Academic teams.
"We are excited to have such an experienced, strong-armed and well-rounded outside hitter like Maggie join us," Maryville College Head Coach Kandis Schram said. "She will make an impact right away to our competitiveness and drive for the championship. Maggie is joining us from Santa Fe College and JJVA Volleyball Club in Florida, a great Junior College and travel club that both have great reputations for training superior volleyball players."
Maggie is the daughter of Jennifer and Del Mathews.
Maggie joins a storied volleyball program in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Maryville College Head Volleyball Coach Kandis Schram, beginning her 34th season in the fall, is presently ranked second within the NCAA Division III among active career volleyball coaching victories with 764 wins in 33 seasons. She is ranked seventh all-time in career coaching victories within the division. Her teams have earned nine Great South Conference titles, two USA South regular-season crowns, and a pair of USA South tournament championships while claiming a dozen bids to the NCAA post-season tournament.
