Cross Country opens season behind strong efforts by Williams, Beckett

The Maryville College women's cross country program began their 2017 season at the Tusculum College Open Invitational meet in Greeneville, Tennessee. The 5K event was won by Lincoln Memorial University with an average time of 21:21.80. The Scots finished sixth with an average time of 23:28.52 in their first effort of the season.

 

LMU took the first three individual positions with Whitney Elliott claiming individual honors with a pace of 19:27.8

 

Maryville College's top finisher was Taylor Williams. The first-year runner from Hendersonville, Tennessee finished in 16th place among 47 runners with a time of 21:47.8. Sophomore Kaitlyn Carringer, a native of Robbinsville, North Carolina finished 23rd in a time of 22:57.7. Susanna Cook, a sophomore from Tellico Plains, Tennessee rounded out MC's top three finishers with a 25th place finish with a time of 23:19.1.

 

 

Coach Tyson Murphy's men's cross country program opened their 2017 campaign at the Tusculum College Open Invitational in Greeneville, Tennessee. The 5K event was won by Lincoln Memorial University with an average time of 16:27.02. In the seven-team event, Maryville finished sixth with an average time of 19:55.72.

 

Carson-Newman's Luke Greer claimed the individual title with a time of 15:38.5

 

Maryville's Daniel Beckett was the Scots' highest finisher. The sophomore from Oak Ridge, Tennessee finished 14th of 56 runners with a 17:04.2 pace. Ryan Lay, a sophomore from Maryville, Tennessee finished 39th with a 19:57 effort.

 

The Scots will now prepare for the Berea College Invitational in Berea, Kentucky on September 16th.
