The Maryville College cross country program finished their fall season of competition at the NCAA regionals in Newport News, Virginia on Saturday morning. Coach Tyson Murphy's squads each placed 23rd as a combined 367 runners crossed the regional finish line. Each MC program established team records during the meet.
The MC men completed the 8K course in 2:29:47 for the 23rd place finish. MC's Sean Hagstrom, the USA South runner of the year, was the Scots' top finisher at 27:47.54 for a 91st place finish. The pace was Hagstrom's second fastest of the fall. Adam Davis completed the race in 28:41.09 for a 123rd place finish. The pace bested his personal record of more than a minute. Three additional Scots runners, David Sturchio, Matthew McNaughton, and Hayden Brown, each finished the challenge with personal best efforts.
The Scots' women were led in the 6K challenge by sophomore Emily Guillaume. The Maryville native was 119th with a time of 25:54.55. Emily Davis completed the course in 26:32.50 for a 137th place finish. Taylor Huskey and Makayla May each ran personal bests to complete the season. The 23rd place is the highest finish the women have ever finished at regionals.
"We ran very well today," stated Coach Murphy. "Both teams overtook conference rivals that we have been chasing for a while, and can walk away knowing they ran faster than any other teams in the school's history."
