The Maryville College Scots fell in the USA South Athletic Conference opener on Monday afternoon, as Covenant College used a two-run sixth in a 4-2 game.
MC outhit the Georgian Scots, 6-5, but a bases loaded double by Hunter Christian in the sixth gave Covenant enough in the conference opener.

Covenant came alive in the top of the sixth, as they took advantage of a hit-by-pitch, a walk and an intentional walk to load the bases. Christian doubled off the left-field wall, scoring both Gonzalez and Brooks DuBose scored on the play. The Georgian Scots took a 3-1 lead to the bottom of the inning.
Maryville cut into the Covenant lead in the bottom of the eighth with a run. Homan drew a leadoff walk, as a balk advanced him to second. A Peyton Sawyer single through the right side put Homan at third, before a hard-hit Joey Tomlinson single through the left side to plate the third baseman, 3-2.
Covenant got that run back in the top of the ninth, however. Brett Kernoble drew a walk, finding his way to second via a wild pitch. Tyler Moore punched a trickling single through the right side, as the speedy Kernoble scored from second. A double play ended the threat, leaving the score a 4-2.
Hollingsworth and Petersen both singled with two outs, putting the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Covenant forced a fly out to secure the two-run victory.
