Maryville College senior infielder Logan Hayes blasted a pair of home runs to help the Scots defeat Emory & Henry College 15-0 in Emory, Virginia on Tuesday afternoon.
While Hayes and the Scots offense tallied 15 runs on 14 hits, junior right-hander Tyler Stubbs tossed seven innings of two-hit ball while keeping the Wasps scoreless during the non-conference challenge.
Maryville scored a run in the first inning when Gabe Lopez doubled, stole third, and dashed home on an errant throw by the catcher.
Hayes tallied his first round-tripper in the third inning after Lopez was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Catcher Eric Hart followed a single by Christian Poulsen and a double by Mike Homan with a single to right center to score the pair. After three complete innings, Maryville led 5-0.
The Scots went up 6-0 on a Poulsen sacrifice fly in the fourth inning scoring Lopez.
In the sixth inning, Homan sent Poulsen and Kolton Hicks home with a two-out double to left center.
Maryville's offense was paced by Hayes' 3-for-6 effort at the plate. He scored a pair of runs while finishing with 6 RBI. Mike Homan went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI.
Maryville advances to 16-13 while Emory & Henry falls to 3-21.
The Scots will host USA South foe William Peace University this weekend for a key league three-game series. The matchup will begin on Friday with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch on MC's Scotland Yard.
