The Maryville College baseball team earned their 20th victory of the season defeating USA South foe Berea College 8-6 in the second game of a three-game league series in Berea, Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountaineers took a 4-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI single and a two-RBI double by Issac Peters and Josh Wilson.
The Scots tied the game 4-4 in the sixth when Joey Tomlinson scored on a Lopez single up the middle.
Berea took the lead in the eighth inning with an RBI double by Crowe and an RBI single by Higdon putting the Mountaineers up 6-5 going into the Scots' last offensive inning.
DJ Cooper tossed six innings during his start on the mound for the Scots. The freshman right-hander scattered six hits while allowing only three earned runs. Senior Samuel Joiner earned the win in relief going two innings and striking out five. Jacob Gossett earned his first save of the season after striking out three to close the ballgame.
The 20-win season is Head Coach Cody Church's fifth-consecutive 20+ win campaign, a new program standard for consecutive 20+win seasons.
The win advances Maryville to 20-14 and 9-9 in USA South action.
