The Maryville College men's basketball team opened their 2013-14 home schedule with a 122-65 victory over Johnson University in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium on Thursday evening.
The Scots jumped out to a 71-35 half time advantage that included a 10-for-16 effort (62%) from beyond the arc while connecting on almost 64% of their shots from the floor.
Both teams cooled off after the half with Johnson hitting only 21% of their shots while going 1-for-12 from three-point range. MC finished the game hitting 50-of-92 shots from the field coming from 32 team assists.
Johnson (0-8) was led by Louis Allen's 22 points on 6-of-21 shooting. Sean Finneran and Jordan McClendon each added 10 points in the loss.
Maryville (1-1) was paced by sophomore guard Spencer Shoffner. The Oak Ridge native hit 5-of-9 treys and 11-of-15 shots to finish with 27 points. Jaumonee Byrd was strong in the post with a double-double effort. The sophomore was 9-for-14 from the floor to finish with 20 points and a dozen rebounds. Junior guard Christian Ford had a cokplete game with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 rebounds. Oscar Butler was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc en route to a 14 point evening. Craig Raye added 11 points while Logan Brewer finished with 10 points.
The Scots will host Bryan College on Saturday afternoon on Randy Lambert Court. The tip-off against the Lions is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
