MC's Hoppa also recorded a career milestone in the game, as the senior notched his 500th career rebound. The Naples, Fla. native has 505 career rebounds, as he's amassed more 130 or more in each of the past three seasons.
Hoppa has averaged 5.3 boards per game over his Maryville College career.
The Scots fell behind, 8-7, at the 15:53 mark, as they found a key first-half run coming out of the media timeout. MC would regain the lead with a 16-point burst and never looked back.
Bowman used a steal and a lay-in to start the run, as Kaleb Estes followed suit with a fast-break lay-up. Hoppa added a trey off a Songster assist just six second later, while Estes made it back-to-back 3-pointers – again on a Songster dish.
Bowman found another steal, as Songster would bucket back-to-back treys of his own to take a 23-8 lead.
The Scots scored that 16 points in just 2:38, as they never relinquished the lead again. Maryville held a 45-37 lead at the break, as Berea ended the half on a 7-0 run.
Maryville shot 43.8 percent in the first half, while going 14-of-32. They added seven treys at a 41.2 percent clip, while knocking down a crucial 10-of-11 at the charity stripe.
The Scots built their lead by three in the second half, outscoring Berea, 44-41, in the final 20 minutes of action.
Maryville (8-6, 4-3 USA South) saw Songster record a complete game of 23 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals. The senior guard went 6-of-9 from the floor, while bucketing a trio of treys on the day. He also went perfect at the free-throw line with an 8-of-8 performance.
Hoppa was also perfect at the charity stripe, going 6-of-6 in his double-double performance. He had 17 points and 10 boards, while crossing the 500-rebound plateau during the second half. Bowman added 17 points and 10 boards, as the duo combined for 21 of MC's 35 rebounds. Bowman had four blocks, three steals and two assist to his credit, as well.
Emanuelle Garcia and J.R. Sanders had eight points on a pair of treys each, while Estes added seven points and six assists. J.P. McGhee had six points and three rebounds, while Nick Clifton added four points and three rebounds.
MC shot 28-of-61 (45.9 percent) on the day, while bucketing 12 treys at a 42.9 percent clip. They also went 21-of-26 from the free-throw line to shoot nearly 81 percent there.
Berea shot 29-of-60 (48.3 percent) from the floor, as they made six treys on the afternoon.
The Mountaineers (7-8, 2-6) had four players in double figures, as Andrew Doty had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Isaac Caudill added 16 points, six boards, three assists and a steal, while Deandre Lightfoot had 16 points, four rebounds and a trio of assists. Torell Carter had 15 points and seven rebounds for Berea.
Maryville will have two days off before taking to the road again. The Scots will travel to Piedmont College on Tuesday, Jan. 15. Tipoff for the USA South bout in Demorest, Ga. is slated for 7 p.m.
