The Maryville College men's golf program loves to play at the Rhodes College Classic. Over the past three seasons, each of the program's top three 54-hole scores has been at this invitational.
The Scots tallied a 292-281-298 for a 54-hole total of 871. This collective effort breaks the old school record by eight strokes. Maryville finished sixth overall as Wil Manuel and Tyler Bray posted record-breaking scores as individuals.
Wil Manuel, in his senior regular season swan song, finished third overall individually among 90 strong NCAA Division III golfers. The Chattanooga native posted a 68-68-73 for a 209 54-hole total. His seven under par effort tied Trey Bridwell's top score of 209 at the 2011 Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.
Sophomore Tyler Bray finished 22nd overall with a 74-70-74 total of 218. His two-over par effort is the sixth-lowest 54-hole total in school history.
Garrett Compliment finished with 222 off rounds consisting of 71-73-78. Senior DJ Shelton finished 43rd overall with an 80-71-73 (224). MC finished their group scoring with Brady Orr's 79-72-80 (231).
"We got off to a slow start this morning but held on to shoot 298. Overall it was an outstanding tournament," stated Head Golf Coach Ron Waters. "Congratulations to Wil Manuel for a much-deserved outstanding tournament. Hopefully, this will give us a boost going into the conference tournament."
Maryville will now prepare for the USA South Championship in LaGrange, Georgia on April 25-27 at the Highlands Country Club.
