The Maryville College men's soccer program advanced to 10-3-1 on the season and 9-2 in USA South Athletic Conference play after a thrilling 1-0 road victory over North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
Maryville senior defender Nate Long deposited his second goal of the weekend and third of the season at the 13:26 mark in the first half for the eventual game-winner.
Each squad went into intermission with four shots apiece but Long's blast was the only one getting any net.
The Battling Bishops put a great deal of offensive pressure on MC keeper Ryan Jorgensen finishing with 14 shots, but all five directed at the net were turned away by the senior keeper.
In a physical game that featured 26 fouls and five yellow cards, Maryville completed the tough league weekend swing through North Carolina with a victory. The loss drops the Bishops to 7-5-1 overall and 7-2-1 I USA South play.
Maryville will now prepare to host USA South foe William Peace University on Friday, October 26th at 6:00 p.m. to conclude regular season play. The Scots will honor their senior class just before the first touch.
