With six runners finishing with personal or seasonal best efforts, the Maryville College men's cross country team finished 5th in the 2017 USA South Championship meet in Tallulah Falls, Georgia hosted by Piedmont College.
The Scots' lead runner was sophomore Daniel Beckett. The Oak Ridge native posted a season best run with a 27:29 8K for an 8th place finish. He earned All-USA South honors for the second consecutive season.
The 90 conference runners were paced by Berea College's Logan McKenzie's 25:57 individual time. Berea College earned the team title placing five of the first six individual finishers with an average time of 26:43.
Helping Maryville finish 5th of 11 teams overall was Ryan Lay. Lay completed his personal best time of 31:43 for a 46th place finish. Chase Chastain completed his season's best time of 32:41 for a 55th place effort. Paced by Chastain, Sawyer Cradit added his personal best time of 32:48 for a 57th place finish. Rookie runner Andrew Amburn recorded a personal best 35:08 for a 69th place finish while Lee Parker completed MC's team effort with a seasonal best 36:03.
The Scots will now prepare for NCAA regionals on November 11th in Newport News, Virginia.
