The Maryville College Softball team dropped a USA South twinbill to Covenant College by the scores of 14-5 and 5-2 on the MC campus on Tuesday afternoon.
The visiting Scots posted 13 hits and took advantage of four Maryville errors to cruise towards victory on the first challenge. Led by Hannah Youngdeer, Maryville collected 10 hits off Covenant starter Cori Hilt. Youngdeer went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Taylor Dockery finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. MC's other RBIs came from Megan Mihaliak and Jennie Burks. Kayla Aloisi (2-8) suffered the loss on the mound after surrendering 13 hits and 10 earned runs in a complete game effort.
In the series finale, Covenant starter Cori Hilt (4-4) limited Maryville to four hits while striking out eight in a complete game win on the mound. Tiffany Brand, Taylor Dockery, Hannah Youngdeer, and Jennie Burks collected MC's only hits. Lexie Randolph (1-11) suffered the loss as the Scots stroked 12 hits while scoring five earned runs.
Covenant advances to 5-9 on the season and 3-5 in USA South challenges.
Maryville falls to 3-19 while going 2-8 in league action. The Scots are paced on the season by centerfielder Taylor Dockery who is hitting .349 with a team-high 22 hits. Catcher Jennie Burks is hitting at a .311 clip while playing strong defense behind the dish.
The Scots will travel to Montgomery, Alabama on Saturday to challenge USA South rival Huntingdon College for a league double header.
