Softball Scots Split with Salem

The Maryville College softball team split a doubleheader in a non-conference road challenge at Salem College on Thursday afternoon. The Scots took the opener 5-4 but fell in the finale 7-2.


In the first challenge Maryville rallied for three runs in their last at-bat to earn a one-run victory. Salem took a 2-0 lead in the first. The Scots cut the lead in half in the second inning when Cydnee Morrisette scored on a wild pitch. Salem extended their lead to 3-1 before Kayla Aloisi drove in Tiffany Brand to make the score 3-2. The home team tacked on an insurance run in the sixth making the score 4-2. Maryville's game winning rally came when the Scots capitalized on a pair of errors scoring three unearned runs. MC's Kayla Aloisi closed the door in Salem's final at-bat to earn the victory. Aloisi threw seven complete innings scattering 13 hits.  Maryville's offense was supported by Megan Mihaliak who went 3-for-4. Hannah Youngdeer finished 2-for-3 with a runs scored and an RBI.


The second game featured Salem jumping out to a 5-0 advantage in the first pair of innings. Maryville rallied for a pair of runs in the third inning when Hannah Youngdeer doubled in Taylor Dockery and then Megan Mihaliak sent Youngdeer home with an RBI single. Salem scored a pair in the fifth as their hurler limited MC to only eight hits in a complete game win. MC's eight hit attack was paced by Tiffany Brand going 3-for-4 with a double. Kayla Aloisi finished 2-for-3 at the plate.


Maryville (4-22) will resume USA South competition this weekend when they travel to William Peace on Friday and Methodist on Saturday.
