The Maryville College softball team dropped a pair of close games in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday morning. The Scots fell to Randolph College 12-10 before dropping a 7-5 decision to Lynchburg College in the afternoon.
Despite a 14-hit offensive attack, Randolph answered with 14 hits of their own off a trio of Scots hurlers. Nicole Blackburn, Katlyn Smith, and Casey Joliff combined for seven innings of work allowing 10 earned runs.
Maryville tried to answer with Christina White, Rachel Taylor, Essence Strambler, Alexus Murray, and Ashton Hayden each placing a pair of hits. Taylor Campbell added a triple and a team-high three RBI while Taylor and Strambler each added a pair of runs driven in.
Randolph's Lindsey Chaney earned the win with over five innings of work allowing only four hits while striking out four.
The Scots looked to bounce back against Lynchburg College.
Lynchburg took a 6-0 lead after a five-run fifth inning chased MC starter MacKenzie Frye. Frye allowed three earned runs while scattering seven hits. MC added a run in the bottom of the fifth but the Hornets added an insurance run in the seventh.
Maryville mounted a four-run rally in their final at-bat but Lynchburg's Connor English came in and closed the door on the Scots' comeback bid.
Maryville (5-4) will conclude action at the Raleigh Invitational on Sunday when they challenge Roanoke College and Pfeiffer University in a doubleheader beginning at 10:00 a.m.
