Maryville College continued their winning ways within the USA South Athletic Conference on Sunday, as the Scots defeated Huntingdon College, 4-0, in the day's first game.
Katlyn Smith picked up her third win of the week, as the sophomore hurler threw a complete game. Smith gave up just two hits and four walks in 28 batters faced, striking out five to advance her record to 12-3.
MC got on the board in the third, taking a 1-0 lead. A Joliff single through the left side led the inning off. Pinch runner Amaya Goodloe stole second, before advancing to third on a groundout. Alexus Murray earned the RBI with a single up the middle.
MC secured a trio of runs in the sixth to keep their record perfect in league play. Essence Strambler and Campbell used back-to-back singles to start the inning. Gordon's two-RBI double to left-center scored Strambler and Reid Ballard for a 3-0 MC lead. Morgan Brewer found an RBI with a single to second, as pinch runner Grace Gordon scored on the play for a 4-0 Scots' victory.
Maryville (17-8, 9-0 USA South) was led by Sarah Gordon who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double. Campbell was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, while Joliff went 2-for-3. Brewer was 1-for-3 with an RBI, as Murray went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Strambler matched her effort with a run, while Ballard, Grace Gordon and Amaya Goodloe added runs.
Huntingdon College (19-10, 4-1) suffered their first conference loss, as Rayne Ellis and Madison Perryman coupled for the Hawks two hits – both going 1-for-3.
