MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Courtney Carruthers, a senior guard at Maryville High School in Maryville, Tenn., has committed to continue her academic and basketball careers at Maryville College.
Carruthers, a 5-foot-6 guard, was a three-time all-district, three-time all-district tournament, and two-time all-region performer for the Rebels and head coach Scott West. Courtney deposited over 1,200 career points and is ranked as one of the top-30 prospects in the state of Tennessee.
"We are thrilled to add Courtney to our backcourt," Maryville College Head Coach Darrin Travillian stated. "She is a prolific scorer, as she is adept at both getting to the rim and pulling from three. She is also an excellent playmaker with great court vision and a willingness to pass. Courtney will be able to make plays for herself as well as her teammates. We love players who come from winning programs like Maryville High School, and Courtney certainly brings that mentality to our squad. We anticipate Courtney helping us from both the point and two-guard spots next season."
Courtney is the daughter of Wes and Gina Carruthers.
She joins a Maryville College women's basketball program that has been led by Darrin Travillian for the past nine seasons. Travillian's squads have posted an amazing 193-61 career mark while going 92-16 in USA South Athletic Conference challenges over the past seven years. The program boasts eight Great South Athletic Conference titles, four USA South regular-season crowns, and a USA South tournament championship in 2015-16. MC's women's basketball has sent 22 squads to the NCAA post-season tournament, five under the direction of Coach Travillian.
