Maryville's women's soccer team dominated the visiting Wasps of Emory & Henry, winning by a score of 3-1 on Saturday.
The Scots got the scoring underway in the 12th minute when Sierra Sigel scored with the help of Phoebe Leo. Maryville would add a second goal when Samantha Turner found the back of the net in the 33rd minute. Emory & Henry would tally its only goal to make the score 2-1. The Scots would close out the scoring in the first half when Phoebe Leo sent a shot in that was mishandled by the Emory & Henry keeper, making the score 3-1 at the half.
Mother Nature played the biggest factor in the second half as rainfall limited opportunities throughout the half. "We played a strong first half and were able to get up on a good Emory & Henry team," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "Phoebe played well getting a goal and an assist and we did enough as a team to get a win. The first one of the season is always the toughest to get."
The win evens the Scots record at 1-1 on the year. Maryville will next be in action Saturday, September 15th when they open up USA South competition against the Panthers of LaGrange. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
