In a battle of unbeatens in USA South action, Maryville's women's soccer team defeated the Avenging Angels of Meredith College 5-1 on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Maryville College.
The Scots would strike early as Allyson Hale would find the back of the net in only the third minute of play. Ashley Howarth would finish off the scoring in the first half with the help of Kelsie Kestner.
Under four minutes into the second half, freshman Sierra Siegel would score her first of two goals on the afternoon. Meredith College would score their only goal of the match in the 53rd minute of play. After that it would be all Scots. In the 57th minute, Ashley Howarth would score her second goal of the game while Sierra Siegel would add the assist. It was only fitting that the last goal of the afternoon would come off the head of Siegel on a cross from Allyson Hale.
"We are getting closer and closer to playing a complete game," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "Our defense was solid in the first half and we felt like we were really starting to click on the offensive end of the field in the second half. Sierra and Ashley were both really good for us today."
With the USA South win, the Scots move to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Maryville will be back in action tomorrow when they host William Peace. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
