On a brisk October Tuesday evening Maryville's women's soccer team defeated the Scots of Covenant College 1-0 on the campus of Maryville College.
The only score in the contest came in the 37th minute of action as junior Ashley Howarth crossed a ball to sophomore Taylor Emerson. Emerson would slide and foot the ball into the back of the net. Michelle Foulke would stop the only shot Covenant would put on net in a game that favored Maryville in time of possession, shots, and corner kicks.
"I thought we played really well in the first half," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "In the second half we got sloppy and ran out of gas as this was our third game in four days. We did enough to win, but it felt like a game that we could have done better if we were more rested."
The win brings the Scots to 7-1-0 on the year. Next up for the Scots will be the Lions of Piedmont College on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
