Two goals early in the first half for Centre College were the downfall for the Scots of Maryville College on Tuesday afternoon in women's soccer action.
Centre did not waste any time scoring in the 16th minute of the first half on a ball that was deflected in off of Scots' keeper Michelle Foulke. Maryville would then have another defensive breakdown on a corner kick in the 38th minute of play, allowing Centre to score their second goal of the contest. The second half was much more evenly played with neither team able to find the net.
"There is a good reason Centre is undefeated so far this year," said head coach Pepe Fernandez. "They have quality players all over the field and today we had a few miscues that ended up costing us the game. We can play with them and compete with them, but we have to be playing at a higher level than we did today."
The loss drops the Scots to 7-2-1 on the year. The next match of the season may decide the USA South regular season as the Scots travel to Averett for a battle of the top two teams. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
