Maryville extends win streak to five behind Reagan, Clothier

Maryville College extended its win streak to five, as the Scots defeated Brevard College, 3-1, on Tuesday night.

The Orange and Garnet used a pair of goals from Shannon Reagan, as Hannah Clothier added a goal late for insurance in the non-conference matchup.

Brevard College would strike first, as the Tornados scored in the 35th minute. Sydney Alencewicz took the pass from Kassidy Hunsaker to score the first goal of the match. With 34:03 showing on the clock, Brevard held a 1-0 lead.

However, the Scots would strike back immediately. Just 2:41 later, Shannon Reagan would collect a Bailey Sipos pass. Reagan would strike, finding the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season. In the 37th minute, Maryville had evened the score, 1-1.

That is where the score would remain at the half.

The Scots outshot the Tornados, 7-6, as both squads recorded a trio of shots on goal.

In the 57th minute, Maryville would take its first lead. The Reagan-Sipos connection worked for the second time in the match, as MC led 2-1 with 33:36 left on the clock.

In the 81st minute, Hannah Clothier would add an insurance goal off the assist from Sarah Wickman, as the Scots would take the win, 3-1.

Maryville (7-2-1) outshot Brevard, 18-10 on the night, as the Scots held the advantage 11-4 in the second half. MC placed eight shots on goal to just five from the Tornados in the physical game that saw 17 total fouls.

The Scots were led by Reagan's performance, as she had three shots. Two shots found target in her two-goal afternoon, as Clothier recorded five shots with a goal. Sipos had a pair of assists, while Wickman added a third.

Rachel Taylor tallied four saves on the night, earning the win with 90 minutes in net.

For Brevard (5-3-0), it was Alencewicz who made her one shot count. Husaker tallied the assist, as both Caroline David and Kathleen Grant tallied a trio of shots each.

The Scots will have a week off, before the face off with Covenant College on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The match – slated for a 7 p.m. start – is recorded as a non-conference contest.
