Maryville College's Zoe Van Hook was honored by the USA South Athletic Conference this week, as the first-year Scot earned Rookie of the Week honors from the conference.
Van Hook – an Oak Ridge, Tenn. native – notched her first collegiate goal this week. She helped the Scots to a 1-0 record, as MC defeated King University, 5-1, in a midweek contest.
"For one, it was a great goal," Head Coach Pepe Fernandez said. "She's been playing well all year long. She had a little bit of a set back with her knee, but she's stepped into a role as an attacking midfield for us. She's really been dynamic in there, and like I said, the goal was a very good goal."
Van Hook's first goal in the Orange and Garnet came in the 56th minute of the non-conference match.
She split a pair of defenders, before launching a high shot from 25 yards out on the right side of the box. The shot would fall just under the crossbar on the right side of the goal to give Maryville College a 4-0 lead in the match with the Tornado.
Van Hook had a trio of shots in the contest, with one on goal. That shot on frame resulted in her goal in the Scots' victory.
The Oak Ridge High School product has a swift start to her collegiate career, as she has started at midfield for Maryville in four of MC's five contests.
"It's good," Fernandez said. "We had that big group of freshmen last year, so we wondered if any freshmen would be able to crack the starting lineup. She's been able to, so that's good."
On the year, Van Hook has collected six shots with a pair on frame. She holds a .333 shots on goal percentage, while tallying a pair of points.
The 5-foot-4 Van Hook will look to lead the Scots into a pair of home contests this week.
Maryville will host Transylvania University on Wednesday night, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m., before taking on Sewanee on Sunday, Sept. 23. First touch for that match is set for 2 p.m.
