Scots fall to Panthers, 1-0, on Golden Goal

Maryville College outshot Ferrum College, 18-6, but a Golden Goal by Casey Raggett gave the Panthers a 1-0 victory in double overtime.

MC posted eight shots on goal to just a trio from Ferrum, but the Panthers' Taylor Dobson turned away each. Raggett posted the unassisted goal in the 103rd minute.

The Scots tallied 10 shots in the opening half, four of those finding frame. They posted five corners to none in the first 45 minutes, as they battled a physical Ferrum squad that posted eight fouls.

MC's Lexie Hill, Jenna Clothier and Shannon Reagan had two shots each in the first half, as both of Clothier's were on goal.

Ferrum saw Alex Mattson with two shots and one on goal.

In the second half, the Scots came out furious in the first 10 minutes, controlling the ball. Maryville controlled the momentum, as they tallied two shots, two offsides and a pair of corner kicks in that span.

Maryville had six shots to just one in the second 45 minutes, as Hill led the way. She posted three total shots in the second, two of those on frame.

MC outshot Ferrum 2-0 in the first 10-minute overtime, before Raggett's score ended the game in the second at 102:06.

Maryville (2-3) was led by Hill's five shots, as Reagan tallied three. Taylor Frizen, Jenna Clothier and Hannah Clothier had two shots each. Abbey Coleman posted a trio of saves on the night in goal.

Ferrum (3-1) saw Raggett post two of the Panthers' six shots. She had two on frame, while scoring the goal. Dobson earned the win in net, turning away each of the Scots' eight on goal.

The Scots return to action tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 15. They face off with Averett University in Danville, Va., with a 4:30 p.m. first touch.
