Tyldesley leads Scots, as MC honors Haller, Flickinger on Senior Day

The Scots celebrated Senior Day on Wednesday night, sweeping Oglethorpe University, 3-0.

Maryville followed freshman Rhianna Tyldesley's 16-kill effort, giving the Scots the victory, 25-14, 25-22, 25-15.

Maryville College Head Coach Kandis Schram and her squad honored their career of Nia Haller and Kaitlyn Flickinger on Wednesday night. The duo – both local products – has led the Scots over the past four seasons to a 75-47 overall record and an amazing 45-12 USA South mark. They've won 79 percent of league matches, while winning the USA South in 2014.

Before Wednesday, Flickinger had amassed 1,290 digs with 3.5 digs per set in 105 career matches. Haller has led MC with 630 career kills and 107 blocks. She's also deposited 66 ace with 580 digs in 94 matches.

In the opening set on Wednesday, Maryville and Oglethorpe battled to a 7-7 score, before a 4-0 run by MC would give them an 11-7 lead. Madison Wilkerson and Haller would record kills in the run, before the Scots would extend that to an 8-1 march, again on Wilkerson and Haller kills.

A Tyldesley kill made the score 21-12, while kills from Dejane Hester-Taylor and Tyldesley would give MC the first set, 25-14.

The Scots opened the second set with a 6-0 flurry on Lauren Espinal, Saidee McDaniel and Tyldesley kills.  Tyldesley would add her fifth kill of the set – her 10th of the match – to extend MC's lead to 11-5.

Oglethorpe would rally, however, as MC posted a trio of errors. The Stormy Petrels would cut the score to two, 14-12, before an Allison Botts' kill ended the run.

A kill from Oglethorpe's Lexi Grams and a Taryn North service ace would knot the set at 18, before kills by McDaniel and Tyldesley would give the Scots a 22-19 lead. Maryville would take set two, 25-22, on a Brianne Sidner kills.

MC would jump to a 10-3 lead in the third set on a huge throw down by Haller. Tyldesley, Hester-Taylor and Kelley Wandell would each record kills to force a Stormy Petrel timeout.

Maryville would ride a 9-1 march for a 15-4 lead, taking set three by the score of 25-15.

The Orange and Garnet (14-12) saw Tyldesley record 16 kills on a .379 hitting percentage. She had two digs and a pair of blocks.

Haller – a senior – recorded seven kills at a .429 clip, as she led MC defensively with 12 digs. Fellow senior Flickinger and MacKenzie Marcrum each recorded double-figure defensive statistics with 10 digs each.

Hester-Taylor had six kills, four digs, a pair of blocks and an assist as she hit .556 for the match. Espinal and Sidner each had five kills, as McDaniel had 22 assists, three digs and a pair of kills. Youell had 19 assists and five digs for Maryville.

Oglethorpe (4-19) was led by Santreece Stephens' seven-kill, seven-dig effort. Malisa Reichard had 15 assists, while Taryn North added 12 digs.

Maryville will look to their final weekend of regular season action, as they travel to Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday, Oct. 28. MC plays the Hawks of Huntingdon at 1 p.m., before taking on Piedmont College at 3 p.m.
