Maryville College completed the USA South sweep, as the Scots defeat LaGrange College, 3-0, in their second conference contest of the day.
MC has swept each of their last four USA South matches by 3-0 score and five of their last six. Maryville used a complete team effort, as five different Orange and Garnet clad players recorded five or more kills for a 25-20, 25-16, 25-23 victory.
LaGrange jumped to a 5-2 lead early before a pair of kills from Dejane Hester-Taylor and Sidner coupled with a ace by Saidee McDaniel knotted the match at 5-all. A pair of Panther errors made the score 8-6 in favor of the Scots, but LaGrange would rally.
The Panthers tallied eight of the next nine to take a 14-9 advantage on six Scots' errors. Hester-Taylor, Lauren Espinal and Arin Wyttenbach would record kills to knot things at 19-all. Madison Wilkerson had a pair of kills while Maryville scored six of the next seven to take set one, 25-20.
In the second set, MC jumped to an early 11-6 lead and didn't look back. Sidner had a kill and an ace in the early goings, while MacKenzie Marcrum added an ace to keep the rally going. Espinal posted three-straight kills late in the set, as a McDaniel ace and a Meredith Bonee kill gave the Scots set two, 25-16.
In the third set, the two USA South foes traded points before the Panthers could take a 20-14 lead late. Sidner and Wilkerson had a kill each to make it 21-16, before Wilkerson and Bonee made it 22-19 with a kill a piece.
Maryville (14-8, 9-3 USA South) was led by Sidner's nine kills, as the junior had eight digs, a block and an ace. Youell had 20 assists, four digs and an ace, while McDaniel had 14 assists, seven digs and two aces. Wilkerson and Hester-Taylor each added seven kills, as Espinal had six kills. Botts led MC's defense with 11 digs and an ace.
LaGrange (8-10, 6-5) followed Jazzlyn Kenner's six-kill effort, while Lauren Sanders and Paeton Robinson had 10 assists each. Courtney had 14 digs for the Panthers in the loss.
Maryville will step out of USA South play on Tuesday night, as the Scots host Oglethorpe University for a Dig Pink, Senior Night celebration. First serve is slated for 6:00 p.m.
