Bonee earns USA South Rookie of the Year, as Sidner and Youell join her in the conference accolades

The USA South Athletic Conference released the Volleyball All-Conference awards on Thursday, as Maryville's Meredith Bonee earned USA South Rookie of the Year.

Brianne Sidner was named to the USA South Western Division First Team squad, as Taylor Youell was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship team.

"Anytime your peers or institutions recognize your girls, you're pretty proud," Head Coach Kandis Schram said. "Especially in this conference – it's such a huge conference being 18 teams – that's a lot of volleyball players. Knowing that they've recognized two of our outstanding players is great."

Bonee earns the honor as the top rookie within the league, as she becomes the first Maryville College player to earn the individual honor.

The freshman produced a well-rounded year for the Scots, as she averaged 4.68 assists, 2.40 digs and 1.87 kills per set in her first collegiate season. She added 31 service aces and 21 blocks during the regular season.

Against USA South competition, Bonee upped her kill average to 2.00 per set, while maintaining her 4.64 assists and 2.34 digs per set. She was named First Team Overall as a rookie, as she took home First Team Western Divison accolades.

Bonee was named the USA South Rookie of the Week on three different occasions this year.

Sidner – a junior on Maryville's squad – also earned First Team Western Division accolades for the Scots.

The outside hitter had 270 kills on the year for a 2.84 kills per set average. She also had 260 digs at a 2.74 clip, while she had 42 service aces. Sidner had 30 blocks and 15 assists in the Scots' run to the USA South Tournament semifinals.

Meredith College's Caroline Corey earned the USA South Player of the Year accolades, while her coach - Fiona Barkley - was named the USA South Coach of the Year. William Peace University's Emily Braxton was named the conference's Libero of the Year.

Maryville College will take on Meredith College – the conference's top-ranked squad – on Friday night, Nov. 2. First serve for that match is slated for 6:30 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.
