The Maryville College volleyball squad clinched at least a tie for the USA South west division regular season title with a pair of league sweeps in Decatur, Georgia on Saturday. The Scots swept Covenant College 3-0 behind the scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-15 before closing out the weekend with a 3-0 sweep over host Agnes Scott College by the scores of 25-22, 25-11, and 25-7.
Against the Covenant Scots, Maryville relied on the double-double of Maggie Mathews. The junior outside hitter had a match-high 10 kills while returning 11 digs on defense. Brianne Sidner added nine kills while returning 15 digs. Saidee McDaniel and Meredith Bonee directed the offense that attacked at a .267 pace with a collective 36 assists. Bonee added seven kills and eight digs while Dejane Hester-Taylor posted seven kills in 12 total attacks. Mathews added five service aces while Sidner also directed four aces.
In the weekend finale against Agnes Scott, Maryville posed their 21st victory of the season (21-6) when Rhianna Tyldesley threw down a match-high nine kills and Meredith Bonee tallied a double-double of 11 assists and a match-high 17 digs. Bonee and Hester-Taylor added seven kills each. Arin Wyttenbach finished with six kills and a pair of blocks while Mackenzie Marcrum added three service aces and a dozen digs.
The victory moved Maryville to 12-0 in regular season league challenges this season.
The Scots will host Emory & Henry College on Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. in Cooper Athletic Center. Coach Kandis Schram and her staff will honor Maryville's seven seniors before the non-conference match.
