Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team kicked off the 2012-2013 season with a 72-63 win over Centre College at the Country Hearth Inn/Famous Recipe Classic in Danville, Kentucky on Friday evening.

Tayler Smith led a group of four Scots scoring in double digits with her 17 points, 11 rebound effort. Smith went 7-for-11 from the field and helped Maryville shoot 53% as a team for the entire challenge. Senior Kierra Payne had a strong second half finishing with 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting while bringing down six rebounds.
Lauren Burnett went 4-for-6 as a point and scoring guard for 11 points while
Janell Menard tossed in 10 points. Freshman
Mackenzie Puckett made her collegiate debut with an eight point, five rebound display while sophomore
Alex Bond sank seven points.
Maryville never relinquished an 18-6 lead established in the first six minutes of the game. The Colonels fought back with 62% shooting to make the halftime score 39-34. A 7-2 run to begin the second half tied the game at 41-41. Although Centre never posted a lead, the teams matched baskets until the 7:53 mark where the score stood at 53-53. Maryville went on a 12-6 run to close out the game and claim their first win of the season.
Centre (0-1) was led by Paige Baechle's 8-for-13 shooting as she finished with 12 points.
Maryville (1-0) will conclude their season opening road tournament against No.14 Thomas More College on Saturday afternoon. The Saints defeated Defiance College 55-51 in earlier tournament action on Friday.
