Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with an 86-78 road victory over Transylvania University to capture the Beusden Classic in Lexington, Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots used a 30-point effort by sophomore Mackenzie Puckett to push past the Pioneers. Puckett was 11-for-20 from the field while also connecting on 7-of-8 free throws. Alex Bond was 4-for-5 from the floor and 3-for-4 at the charity stripe for 11 points while hauling down six rebounds. Kelsey Brown, Bond, and Lauren Burnett each tallied six boards to help MC out rebound the tournament host.
MC trailed at the half, but rallied for a 47-point effort in the second half behind 84% free throw shooting.
"Mackenzie's 30 were hard earned," stated Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "We had countless contributions up and down the roster and our free throw shooting was crucial in the second half. I am so proud of the toughness we showed down the stretch."
Maryville will now prepare for the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic in Danville, Kentucky where they will challenge Centre and Millikin next Friday and Saturday.
