Box Score The Maryville College women's basketball team dropped their first game of the season with a 55-53 loss at the hands of Centre College in Danville, Kentucky on Friday evening.
The Colonels out scored the Scots 29-25 at the half. Centre extended their lead to ten with 13 minutes remaining before MC began to chip away at the lead. A Mackenzie Puckett lay up pulled the Scots to 54-53 with a minute remaining. Maryville had a pair of defensive stops but could not capitalize on their final pair of scoring efforts.
MC shot 35% from the floor while hitting 33% from long distance. Maryville's defense forced 16 turnovers, but the Colonels out rebounded the Scots 40-25 while shooting over 43% from the field.
Centre was led by Maggie Hartlage's 23 points. Paige Baechle added 17 points.
"This was another hard fouught battle for us this evening," stated MC Head Coach Darrin Travillian. "We just dug too big of a hole to recover from. Our offensive rebounding has to improve. I am proud of our comeback, and we will learn and grow from this setback."
Maryville (2-1) was paced by Mackenzie Puckett's 13 points and seven rebounds. Lauren Burnett connected on three treys en route to an 11-point effort. Alex Bond added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
MC will challenge Milliken University at 1:00 in Danville, Kentucky.
